Können Fische Kunst sein, oder vielleicht Kunst werden? Keine einfache Fragestellung. Als Silhouette dienen bei der kreativen Position Hai, Gelbflossentunfisch, Goldbrasse und Hering. Sie ergeben die künstlerische Frage: Wer oder was schwimmt denn – oder genauer gefragt, was hängt denn da? Keine einfache Antwort, denn die Adaptionen und fragmentarischen Erscheinungsformen, die die Fische ertragen müssen, um öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit (fishing for compliments) zu erhalten, sind so komplex und differenziert, wie ihre terrestrischen Lebensumwelt. Wiesbaden ist aktueller Schauplatz der ersten partizipativen Inszenierung, sozusagen in der „heimlichen Hauptstadt von FLUXUS 2022-2023“. Ganz bewußt nutzte ich die Spielart der fluxistischen Aktionskunst, die parallel zum Happening Ende der 1950 entstand, zu deren Protagonisten George Brecht, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles, Jackson Mac Low, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, George Maciunas, Jo Johnes und Ben Patterson, die ich zum Teil alle in den 1990er Jahren in Wiesbaden erlebte. Fluxus definiert dabei in Anlehnung an das lateinische Verb "fluere" (dt.: fließen) das Zusammenfließen unterschiedlicher Kunstformen. Charakteristisch für Fluxus ist der witzige, spontane, experimentelle, häufig minimalistische und partizipative Ansatz. Und nun hängen die Objekte der Begierde an exponierter Stelle im öffentlichen Raum.

Platziert und in Szene gesetzt durch örtliche Art-Agenten. Gestartet mit der Fischwanderung wurde auf der nordfriesischen Insel Föhr im Frühjahr 2022. Oslo & Wiesbaden waren im Mai Ausgangspunkt. Hamburg, Frankfurt und München sind jeweils einen Monat später im Visier gewesen, bevor Amsterdam, Paris, London, New York, Chicago, Nasville/Tennessee in den Fokus der Aktion geraten sind. Ein Highlight war schließlich Homer in Alaska. Im Sommer 2022 tauchten auch Fische auf der Biennale in Venedig und an der kroatischen Küste auf. Malta war abschließend im Mittelmeerraum markiert. Die Perspektive für den Herbst/Winter 2022 war Zeebrügge/Belgien, Le Havre/Honfleur,Frankreich, Southampton/Großbritannien und ein Fischhappening in Rotterdam/Niederlande. Eine lange Wanderung gab es Richtung Neuseeland, bevor einer in Namibia auftauchte. Und jetzt wieder ganz nah an der tiefsten Landstelle Deutschland. Und wenn die Nachrichtenkanäle stimmen, sind einige Fische 2023 in Argentienien und Brasilien und Litauen unterwegs. Kürzlich gab es nach einem Jahr eine Meldung als Wiederentdeckung in Alaska. Der aktuellste Statur kommt dabei im Herbst 2023 aus dem europäischen Raum, aus Lissabon und Funchal. Danke dafür!

Can fish be art, or perhaps become art? Not a simple question. Shark, yellowfin tuna, gilthead seabream and herring serve as silhouettes in the creative position. They result in the artistic question: who or what is swimming - or more precisely, what is hanging? No simple answer, because the adaptations and fragmentary manifestations that the fish have to endure to get public attention (fishing for compliments) are as complex and differentiated as their terrestrial living environment. Wiesbaden is the current setting for the first participatory production, in the "secret capital of FLUXUS 2022-2023", so to speak. Quite consciously, I used the play of fluxist action art, which emerged parallel to the Happening at the end of the 1950s. Its protagonists include George Brecht, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles, Jackson Mac Low, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, George Maciunas, Jo Johnes, and Ben Patterson, some of whom I experienced in Wiesbaden in the 1990s. Fluxus, in reference to the Latin verb "fluere" (meaning to flow), defines the merging of different art forms. Characteristic of Fluxus is the witty, spontaneous, experimental, often minimalist and participatory approach. And now the objects of desire hang in exposed positions in public space.
